The Henderson Writers Group is proud to present the The Henderson Writers’ Group was established in 2001 as a critiquing group to help aspiring writers who desired to see their work published. The eight beginning members of the group were serious about becoming published, and networked with everyone who could further that goal. Finally the group discovered that the agents and publishers who help writers bring their work to the public do not pick up new clients unless they meet and get to know first-time authors personally. So, in 2003 they hosted their first, small conference in Henderson, NV, to bring editors and agents to our town to meet and get to know them. In 2004 they helped the Western Writer’s of America put on their convention in Mesquite, NV, and, as a result of the contacts they made there, they were able to hold a larger conference of their own in 2005. At that conference four of the attendees signed contracts at the conference, and several more promising relationships for the local authors were begun. The goal of the Henderson Writers’ group, now numbering approximately 60 members (many of whom are published authors), is to help each and every writer in Clark County, NV, reach the goals they have set for themselves, whether or not they belong to our critiquing group. As for the future, they hope to keep bringing these conferences to the Las Vegas Valley to educate area writers and provide a well established critiquing group to any writer who wants to learn the writing craft from those who have climbed the ladder already. Eventually they would like to establish a scholarship for up and coming writer’s so they too can pursue their writing goals through education.
